Just A Little Christmas Humor

Alexis opened one of her Christmas presents from Mom and Dad.

She removed the tissue paper from the box and excitedly pulled out a darling jogging outfit (pants and a zippered hoody). It had shiny emblems on the lapel and on the backside of the pant bottoms and it was the lovely shade of pale teal.

Alexis was very excited and said, "I love it. I love this color - this is my favorite color."

I smiled.

Alexis smiled back sweetly at her Mama.

Chloe looked at Courtney, with a smirk on her can't-wait-to-come-up-with-a-sarcastic-remark-teenage-face and said, "What ... grayish teal?" questioning Alexis' enthusiasm over this color.

Courtney, whose wheels are turning now - in her equally-sarcastic-teenage-pea-sized-brain then says, "What ... the color of dead pond water?" and they laugh into each other's faces obnoxiously.

Then, the quick witted Chloe quickly banters back, "What ... the color of bread mold?" and now the two hysterical teenage comedians have thrown their heads back and spit is flying everywhere from all of their rowdy laughter.

And now Courtney's mind is really racing and immediately she says, "What ... like the color of extinct Brontosaurus'?" and she lies down sideways on the couch, laughing so hard she can barely catch her breath.

Chloe, who can not believe how funny she and her sister are, and this is apparent by the way they keep giving each other pokes on the shoulders or exaggerated high-fives, says, "What ... like the color of a decaying sea turtle?" and then falls to the floor, holding her stomach and wipes at the tears running down her face.

Me ... I'm sitting across the room, drinking my coffee as I am watching this episode of Comedy Central and just rolling my eyes.

The darling Alexis, sitting in the middle of the floor, has long since folded her lovely new jogging suit back into its box and has moved onto her next Christmas present -- never once picking up on the ridiculous meanness being hurled at her by her two loving sisters. She loves this new teal jogging suit and has declared that it will be the outfit she will wear for the day.

On the upside ... Sometimes those twins are funny and then sometimes ... they are ... Just. Plain. Stupid.

LOL!

Well, I think decaying sea turtle teal is a lovely color.

Wow girl, I love the way you describe teenaged behavior. You paint such vivid, true-to-life words pictures and capture their insane, youthful silliness perfectly. Our son doesn't have anyone in the family to be silly like that with (your girls are lucky) and so just shouts out his sarcastic, witty-to-him comments to anyone who will listen. His favorite thing to do right now is dis his sisters' gifts. Hope your whole day is fun! And that is a cool jogging suit, BTW.

Oh Kellan, I just KNEW I could count on you for a Christmas Day pick-me-up-because-I'm-a-little-tired-but-in-a-great-way!

I LOVE the color of Alexis' jogging suit--I think it is beautimous and is a great color on her! Good for her for being "above it all"!!!

But, on the other hand, good for Courtney and Chloe for cracking themselves up so much; I frequently do that myself which, if unattractive in 15-year-olds, is almost disturbing in a if-you-transpose-15-year-old! JUST GOOD, HEALTHY SELF-ESTEEM, I SAY! BWAHAHAHA!

Joyous day to all!

Merry Christmas you guys - and tell your little dahlin' that I love the color of bread mold soooo much, I painted my kitchen cabinets that color!

Well, I think it is a fabulous color! And she looks just darling in it. I'm glad she didn't catch on to her the twins humor...they have a right to entertain themselves and all, but it would have been sad if it deter Alexis from loving this present as much as she does. Hope other then the twin humor...there were not other episodes needing eye rolling and strong coffee for mom! Hope it was a great day for all.

Merry Christmas Kellan! I have enjoyed getting to know you and reading about your wonderful family!.

Your twins crack themselves up, LOL. Very funny Christmas story. I can just see it playing out, while the presents are being opened.

She looks so very cute in her beautiful jogging suit. I love the color. Next time I go look for a t-shirt I am going to look for a "dead sea turtle" shade :)

I don't miss being a teenager. Once you get older you realize that you were that way too at their age.

Decaying sea turtles and bread mold? Wow. I thought Jean was descriptive when she told Olive that Olive was "so loud a bucket of dead dolphins could hear you, even though they are dead!"

Alexis looks so cute in her jogging suit. Smart one, Alexis is... I guess she's already learned one of the key survival rules when dealing with meanie older teen siblings... ignoring them :).
Glad that your twins get along as well as they do, though... sure beats arguing, doesn't it?

suchsimplepleasures said...

p.s...she should wear that sweatsuit proudly!! it's absolutely adorable. something my 9 year old would love!!!

Decaying sea turtle?
Interesting, very interesting.
Not so nice for those of us who tend to picture all things picturable. Yes, I have just made up a new word. But you get the picture. :)
My ten year old would have loved these sweats.
She spent the whole day wearing her new robe--over her clothes.
Guess she loved her cotton candy color new robe. :)

LOL You have to give them credit for being creative. But I love her jogging suit and she looks adorable in it no matter what color it is.

Aren't those teenagers funny!

I like the color, but what I really like is that Alexis didn't even pay attention to them! She is smart and fashionable!

Angela said...

Ridicule can really kill a kid so I'm so happy she wasn't even paying attention! What a huge blessing! And teenagers must be such a blast... I was thinking today how wonderful it is that we often are able to start with our children at or near birth enabling us to get used to them and broken in as parents in general. So that when things like this happy, maybe, sometimes we can understand their sense of humor nad normal craziness. More than anything though, I'm glad it sounds like you had a good day. Merry Christmas Kellan!

The color looks great on her. The conversation ... lovely. Can't wait to have a house full of real conversations.

Teal happens to be one of my favorite colors. Alexis looks lovely! :o)

Nice to see she didn't let her sisters get the better of her and wore it anyways. Merry Christmas Kellan! Can't believe you found time to blog!!

Heather said...

Good for Alexis! She knows what she likes and no one will tell her otherwise. I got something similar to this from my grandma, but it is hot pink. I wore it the other day while vacuuming and my husband kept walking up to me telling me that I really needed to change my clothes. I don't think he was thrilled with it.

Stacie said...

*hmph* well, I have to agree with Alexis, it is a beautiful color and I am glad she is wearing it proudly!

So glad to know all teenagers are alike...The teal suit is cute.

I am so glad that Alexis didn't let the big girls get to her or take away her joy at her lovely teal suit. (My fave colour too:)
By the way, your descriptions of the girls are so perfect I can practically hear them.

Becky said...

Your twins are such a hoot! That is a beautiful color and one of my personal favorites (I have a velour hoodie in the same color).

Sounds like you and yours had a great Christmas, Kellan! I'm just dropping by right quick between activities...normal life will resume when the kiddos are back in school...I hope!

Alexis looks gorgeous in 'teal' whatever those crazy twins say ... my BIL has twin brothers (50 odd) and at my nieces wedding when I was 12weeks pregnant with mine - (yet to be determined sexes) they were wishing every crazy comment on their niece and me.Zany humour cracking each other up must be a twin thing.I had a good giggle.
