My Husband And His Redneck Hobbies

If you drive up my driveway and look to the right, this is what you will see:

And this:

This is my side of the driveway - the right side.

Now ... if you drive up the same driveway, and look to the left ... you will see this:

And this:

This is my husbands side of the driveway - the left side.

And ... these aren't even all of his cars. He also has a Corvette (in the garage), a van, a bucket truck, a work truck and a 1977 Lincoln that is stored in a neighbor's garage, down the street - soon to be moved to his side of the driveway.

This is my husband's hobby ---- BECOMING A REDNECK!

On the upside ... I don't think he realizes that this is a BIG OL' REDNECK MESS. That's okay - that's what he has me for --- to tell him that THIS IS A BIG OL' MESS AND IF HE DOESN'T GET SOME OF THESE CARS OUTTA HERE, I AM GOING TO START PUTTING ALL THOSE WHITE SOCKS IN THE FLOWER BEDS AS MULCH (See post: I'll Be The Talk Of The Town ... And Not In A Good Way)!!!

OMG I love that Volvo wagon! I mean, yes, your husband has a redneck hobby. Good luck with that.

Oh, that fountain is gorgeous, Kellan! I'd be yelling about the cars too.

Oh, oh! I hope he does listen soon. As a good husband should! ;)

i am cracking up over this one!!!!

But wow, oh wow... a redneck with style and class. Yes?

Teensy bit jealous of your incredible fountain!

Queen of My Domain said...

That is to funny. My Hubs would do that if I let him. But we don't have as big a driveway as yours so I can't let him do that.

Pamela said...

Maybe you will have to get "his" and "hers" signs for your yard :)

Looks like our hubby's are related!! I'll be posting pictures of his "projects" soon.

I stumbled across your blog and love it! I hope that you don't mind a new reader.

DON'T do Bill that way ! ! I can relate to his needs ! Better his cars than being away to football games, or even glued in front of the TV watching.

Um......at least he has a hobby?

Looks like Melissa from Hope for the hopeless is our common link. BTW, meant to tell you before but I know another momo mom in San Antonio. Small world.

Your side is so beautiful...and his...is...so...like my Dad!!

At least it's only a few cars and not a thousand plastic pink flamingos or garden gnomes...there's your upside, Kellan!!

Melissa said...

Wow, your home is beautiful! I would spend a lot of time in front of the fountain.

LOL on the cars. I'll bet your neighbors like the right side more than the left.

You know the first post I ever read on your blog was the Sock Mulch post. It was so good I just had to keep coming back to read more!

I am with you on this one, Kellan! The right side of your driveway looks beautiful, like a park with the fountain and benches. The left side,..well,..it's different. Hey, if that's the worst think the Cowboy does, work on cars, that's not SO bad, right? I had forgotten about the "socks", maybe you should pour them on top of the vehicles? :)

forgetfulone said...

Those first two pictures were gorgeous! I would love to have a home that beautiful. But... then I got to the cars! On the upside, his hobby could be a whole lot worse!

Growing up my Grandpa had lots of old cars out in the yard. Once I asked my mom why Grandpa had a junkyard.
I can't see the pictures (ya know blind), but this post brought back memories. Thanks

If I asked my husband to move the cars It would probably take a coupe of years. I would have to do it myself.

McSwain said...

Ha! That is SO funny. When I see pictures like that, I don't know if I'm glad I don't have a husband and his mess/old cars to deal with, or if I'm sad. :)

Shellie said...

Hee hee! O love your side! Whatever would he do without you?

Dawn said...

Oh yikes! That is funny though- do they run? I like your side of the driveway, it's very pretty.

EC said...

Your side of the driveway is so darn pretty!! Now, his side... um, needs some work, lol. But if he wants to get rid of a car I'll take it off his hands, I'm in desperate need of one!! lol. As long as it runs that is! :)

Suddenly, my husband's video game addiction doesn't seem so bad... :-D

You have a lovely home and garden even if your husband is leaving his hobbies around. I wish I had a garden that big! Wouldn't mind a fountain in it either!

That is funny! I love the fountain by the way! I suggest holding your head up high and acting as if there are no cars there...what cars? huh? we don't have cars in our yard...what do you mean?

Gotta love those husbands and their hobbies...mine doesn't involve cars so much but every sport known to man and all the 'gear' to play it

How cute that your dad was sticking up for him! I'm curious, what does your hubby do for a living? You have a beautiful home. Maybe you can get him interested in a new hobby - how does he feel about coin collecting? It doesn't take up a lot of space, and it can be stuffed in a drawer!

pb&j in a bowl said...

Still laughing! Your side is so pretty. I hope he doesn't outgrow his side, and start invading yours!

HAH!
I love car nuts! Tell him I said you need to build him a 7 car garage on that side of the driveway.
Then post pics of the Corvette, please.

Susan said...

Oh my, this is what my backyard look like when I was growing up. I am afraid to say it has not changed. Maybe your hubby will listen I know my Dad didn't but that's o.k. because they have been married for 38 years and my mom still complains about the cars but she has gotten used to them.

kim-d said...

Kellen, I have a great idea! You need to decorate HIS side of the driveway, cars and all--put some pretty planters and flowers on the hoods, string some white twinkly lights along the doors, windows, maybe even a mini-serenity-fountain on the roof. He will be so humiliated he will clear them out REALLY fast--HAHAHA!

Curious, though--the little white number behind the ugly pick-up truck? Is that an old 'Stang or, dare I ask, a 1967-or-68 Cougar? Cause if it's a Cougar, I LOVED those. If it's the 'Stang, of course, EVERYONE loved those! It has some pretty nice rims, whatever it is. HAHAHA!

Seriously, beautiful home you have Kellan!

Wendy said...

Must be a man thing...my ex had a wrecked truck parked out front of our house too. NOT in the driveway but on the cul de sac. I'm sure the neighbors loved us!

Holly said...

Your side is lovely!

Bia said...

Kellan, your side of the driveway is much, much classier. Love that fountain! God bless!

Men and their hobbies. My husband drives me crazy too with all his "Toys". With all the lawn equipment he has he should open a landscaping business. And we have car issues too. At least most of his toys are kept in the garage most of the time. I feel your pain, and I would be upset too. Good luck.

Jodi said...

I'll take your side of the driveway! so serene....

Joanna said...

Oh, that fountain is beautiful! You know there are tax write offs for 'donating cars' just saying. Some of them even come and get the cars! But if your husband is true Redneck those would be fighten words. Good luck!

I kinda like your side better... :)

Manda said...

Hey, at least they aren't in your front yard--yet. :)

katy said...

Does your husband have any weird scars where he could possible have been surgically removed from his siamese twin, my husband?

katy said...

Of course that should have read possibly but some people don't read what they write until it is already too late.

Anna said...

I think your home looks beautiful! And that includes *both* sides of your driveway! ;-)
Hope you had a wonderful holiday!

Irene said...

Hilarious!!! You should meet my MIL. She has a nice home, beautiful landscaping/flowers/shubbery etc. Then you travel to the backyard where my FIL's garage is. He doesn't believe in EVER EVER throwing anything away. I can fix it!

I always tell my MIL that she better now die first. Her gorgeous home will definitely turn into the set of Sanford and Son. In fact, he already owns the 1950 beat-up red truck that went with that show. I am NOT kidding.

chickadee said...

that is funny. but your yard is really beautiful. old cars and all.

Oh.My.Word! Too funny! Men! Can't live with them and can't live without 'em either!

Hugs!

No way I'm showing pictures of our driveway. For the past 2 days, Bennie's legs are the only thing you can see of him... Sticking out from under his monster truck. LOL

Care if I just stare at your side of the driveway awhile? :o)

Zoe said...

HA! I love your side. His side looks like my 2 toothed neighbors down the road!

Maria said...

Pretty house! Cars and all! I love how it looks like that tree branch is growing over the car!

JCK said...

Kellan, I think this was your funniest post, ever. Do you make guests wear a left-sided eye patch when they come to your house? O.K., SOMEDAY, I am coming to sit by that fountain and sip some sweet tea and CHAT with you! Happy New Year and thanks for being such an inspiration for loveliness! I love your blog, as you know.

Jen said...

Yeah, its a redneck house. Although, its a very pretty *house* and *yard* its just some of the street ornaments bringing you down.

Jim has the same redneck hobby! We have a 1965 Mercedes in the process of being restored and a 1966 Mustang that needs to be put back together before it can be restored...lol

This is too funny, how can one side look so much like a retreat and the other...You have to have a great sense of humor for all those cars. My sweet husband has the same devotion to sheds, we have so many from the same company, if they don't have one on their lot to show a customer they call and ask us if they can bring a client by to take a look at ours.

girlymom said...

He is definately turning redneck! You have HUGE driveway

Patti said...

Oh I love that wagon too. We plan on restoring an old car or truck, we just can't agree on what!
