He's Got My Number

It's almost 10:30 p.m. and I walk by his room. I hear the TV and step inside. I look over at his bed and he shuts his eyes quickly - pretends he is asleep. I switch off the TV, walk over and give my sneaky boy a kiss on the forehead and leave his room.

The next evening, it is almost 10:30 p.m. and I walk by his room. I hear the TV and step inside the door. I stand in the doorway, put my hands on my hips and say, "I'm going to take this TV out of your room if I catch you watching it one more time."

He says, "Night Mom," and wraps his skinny arms around my neck and hugs me hard.

The next evening, it is almost 10:30 p.m. and I walk by his room. I hear the TV and step inside. I reach over and turn it off.

He grins and says, "Mom, come here. I want to give you a hug - a wonderful hug," and my heart instantly melts. Then he says, "Yeah, yeah ... a wonderful hug," before I can even utter a word.

I glide over to his bed on the cloud of his soothing words, bend over and push my hands up under his skinny little body and pull him to me.

He whispers in my ear, "I love you Mom," and he hugs me ... wonderfully.

"See you tomorrow," He says sweetly, and I slink out of his room.

See you tomorrow.

On the upside ... Okay - So, sometimes I'm a bit of a push-over for sweet words and wonderful hugs!

I am a sucker for hugs and kisses. It kills me when he says he is too big for kisses.....he is only four!!

He's a sweet one, that sly boy. But they're only young once and sometimes it's so worth it to be pushed over.

I think any good mom would melt for a wonderful hug. I know I sure do! Good night.

*lol* He has you figured out!!! ... But hey, if it gets you extra hugs... WORK WITH IT! ;)

My son knows how to work me too... Jared will come out late at night, after Josh is asleep, to ask to watch a movie with me. He always gets me by saying, "I want to spend some time alone with you!"

:)

Yup, I'm a sucker for hugs and kisses too - if only my little one would stay still long enough to give them to me OR for me to give them to her :)

That is so sweet! I am sucker for hugs and kisses too, especially from my little boy! He totally has your number, but sometimes that is totally okay!

Hey its getting turned off when you ask right? My little brother would say things like "Mommy will you be a beauty and do _____?" And my 4 year old does the "I love you so much" or "You're a rockstar!" Its fun isn't it!?

This reminds me of when Danger Boy was about 3 and I was scolding him for some infraction. He put his hands on my cheeks and kissed me right on the lips. My mom and I collapsed in laughter.

Those sweet words and hugs have gotten me from time to time as well! I cherish those moments! We are off on our overnight trip! See you tomorrow!

Here's my take on it--I think he leaves that TV on purposely so you will come in. Then he can have that "little bit of heaven" moment with you. Naturally, without having to ask. And maybe he's watching the TV too late JUST A LITTLE BIT :). Either way, everybody wins.

And here's my take on another thing. One of the reasons why you are the oh-so-wonderful Kellan that we all know and love? You have a Dad who not only reads your blog, but who also comments. AND a beautiful Mom. No wonder you are who are you :)!

And what I meant was..."no wonder you are who you are"! WAY TO WRECK A PERFECTLY GOOD COMPLIMENT...haha!

There's a big difference between being a push over and being a mom who loves her kiddo so much she can sort of look the other way!! After all, you ARE getting wonderful hugs!! What more could you want?

Little girls are so special and most of the time do just what Mom's want them to. However little boys are the best since their love and thoughtfulness comes when it is least expected. Can you tell I have a son...one very special one!

Andrea said...

awww....I'd be the same way!!!

Oh, yeah. The hugs from my son are the best. My daughter is more enthusiastic and frequent, but his area long and sweet. I love both kinds, but I'll admit to being more of a pushover for my boy. What a cliche' right?

Such a sweetheart! What a loving family you have, and I know his hug was a lot more than about the tv. He still needs his Mom's wonderful hugs too!! Beautiful post, as always Kellan!
XOXOXO

Yup, my 2 yr old girl already gets away with murder just by batting her eyelashes at me.

I can't even imagine what she will get away with once she is old enough to charm me with her words.

Oh you have to eat up all the love
So sweet!

carrie said...

Okay - this is why the boys don't have cable in their room! Only a tv with a built in VCR, so they can only watch our lame VCR tapes (who even has those anymore?)! But if they had cable, they'd con me with their sweetness and bat their eyelashes and I'd totally fall for it! And they'd watch HBO all night and then I'd have some explaining to do! ;)

My kids are too young to realize the power of well placed a wonderful hug. I wonder, do you still take the TV away?

My fridge award is created and waiting for you on my blog.
See you soon.

Don't feel bad Kellan, it's a universal "mom" thing I fear! Mine gives me that big ol' cheesy grin and my heart just melts *plop*

girlytwins said...

Melting right now. I'm pretty sure every mom is allowed to give in for a *wonderful* hug.

Irene said...

Yeah, he is a very smart kid! Yes, you are also a pushover, but that is OK. I would be too!
