Please Pray For Our Baby

On Wednesday, a new baby came into our family.

This is my mother's very first great-grandchild, my sister's first grandchild and this baby makes me a great-aunt. This is my sweet nephew's baby.

We are very excited about this sweet new baby, but there are serious problems. The baby was born too early. Due to complications, the baby had to be taken by C-Section early Wednesday afternoon and is now in serious condition in the Neonatal ICU. The baby is about 24 weeks and was born weighing only about 1 lb. He is about 11" long and cried loud and hard when he was delivered. He has good movement and is hanging on, but it is indicated by the doctors that the first week is the most dangerous and there is concern for the baby's brain, lungs and heart. Right now, he is doing well, but these are the areas of concern and where issues can arise.

Our new baby has a name, but I do not feel comfortable giving the name or that of his parents - only to say that they are my family and I love them and I am worried beyond words.

My sister, mother and I went to the hospital Wednesday evening and were able to see the baby (my sister and mother did). He is tiny, but precious and doing as well as can be expected. Thursday, my sister went by and saw the baby again. The doctor's seemed pleased with his current condition and feel he is a fighter and doing well right now.

I hope you will pray for our baby. Please pray that God stays close and protects him and if it is His will that this baby stays with us, that he will grow strong and healthy. Please pray that the doctors and nurses looking after him are guided by God's hand.

Thank you God ... for this baby - We love him very much!

Dear Jesus,
We pray for this precious baby that you have given Kellan & family. May your Spirit hover over her and your angels surround her day and night. May she sleeps comfortably, eat healthily....

Psalm 118:17:

17 I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the LORD.

We speak that Word into this little baby.

In Jesus Name we pray... Amen!

They can do so much these days. I was born early and only weighed 2.5, so if I could make it 40+++ years ago, if its gods will,he will also. He will be in my prayers day and night. Hang on and keep us posted. Kelli

(sigh) I just typed a message and cyberspace ate it.

I'll be praying for that itty bitty baby. I've got twin neices that were born at 29 weeks. They each weren't much bigger than the new little one in your family. They are now healthy, active 3.5 year old spunky little girls. No delays, nothing. It truly was a miracle. I'll be praying for the same for your family.

That baby will be in my prayers and your family. I have a friend with 23 week twins who made it. Because I volunteer at my NICU I have seen all sorts of amazing things. Last week I was staring at a 25 week fighter and thinking about who he was and what his life would be. There are miracles all the time. Again, my heart goes out to you.

Oh, Kellan, I'll be praying! After the whole situation with my cousin's little preemie before Thanksgiving, I have a tender spot in my heart for these little ones, and their families going through those initial first weeks in the NICU. The Lord always seems to have a purpose in it any which way. Praying for a miracle!

Amanda said...

I'll definitely be praying for this precious new baby and for your family. I've heard of many stories of babies born early that fight their way through those early weeks.

Oh Kellan, what a scary time for you family. The birth of a baby is always a blessing, but scary when it's too soon. I have to say, though, that my daughter has a friend who was born right about that same time-frame and is alive and strong! She has SOME developmental delays because of a brain bleed in the first few weeks, but she is an amazing little girl with an INCREDIBLE eye for detail (in many many things, but inspecially in her drawings and art projects) in life and has such a lovely, LIVELY, enthusiastic personality. It's amazing what doctors can do and my thoughts will ABSOLUTLEY be with this new baby, wishing him a long healthy life and a strong courageous fight at life. HUGS to you and your family.

Kellan,

I'll be saying some prayers for your new little grand-nephew, and your whole family. Just a word of encouragement,..my girlfriend's nephew was born approximately during that same time frame, he weighed 1 lb. and could fit in the palm of his father's hand. He is now 20 yrs. old, and a very healthy young man! Hope that helps, hang in there!

Please know I am praying for him and for you all. Praying hard. A friend of mine here has a little girl born at 24 weeks as well. She is now about 45 days old and has wonderful days and not so great days. Her family has strong Faith that is carrying them through.
If your nephew or his wife would like to speak to someone going through this as well, I know my friend would be happy to speak with them.
Bless you all,
Kristen

"our" baby is a week old today. How is he doing? hope all is stable. I was thinking you should start a blog for him, put his birth date, weight all that info. Add pictures all year and then have it printed and hard bound for his birthday. All that he went through that first year. all your blog friends could post there prayers and thoughts and best wishes. What a great present that would be when he is one or.......... as a sweet reminder. (dont mean to be negative with that last thought) Kelli
