Dream On Child

Oh Good Lord!

I am sometimes preoccupied!

Let's just say ... I don't always hear everything that my children say.

Sometimes I am busy.

Sometimes I am tired.

Sometimes - Yes - I have even been know to ignore their voices, if those voices are gibbering - jabber, whilst I am in the middle of watching shows like ... LOST!

I have.

Well ... I woke up the other morning - rolled over in my bed and it hit me.

I sort of ... (*tilts head sideways and then backwards and then forward again, hoping the memory will rattle its way clearly to the front of her brain*) ... sort of ... recalled - as I am coming out of my slumber ---- agreeing ---- the previous evening ---- around 8:30 p.m. ---- during my preoccupation and lustful infatuation with Sawyer -- I mean ... during LOST ... with my 10 year old son ... that it would be fine --- THAT HE COULD START A BAND, USE OUR GAZEBO AS HOME BASE, A BAND TO BE CALLED DOUBLE K-B (Kool Kid Band) OR SOMETHING, INVOLVING 4 OR 6 OR 8 BOYS (not clear), HE'S BEEN WORKING ON THEIR FIRST SONG -- ALL HE NEEDS FROM ME IS AN ELECTRIC GUITAR AND ONE AMP-LI-FI-ER!

On the upside ... This could have been a dream. I surly would not have agreed to such a thing! Surly I have been a mother long enough to know that you do not answer ANY QUESTION while under the influence of shows such as LOST! Surly I am stronger and smarter and capable of resisting the seductive lures of a sexy man on TV long enough to pull my melting mind to the here-and-now in order to simply say, "Maybe," or "We'll see," or "Let's talk about it later." Surly I didn't commit to anything under duress ... (*puts face into pillow and SCREAMS - thoughts going through her foggy mind of small 10 year old, spiked haired, tatoo wearing boys - ROCKING OUT to Van Halen ... in her backyard gazebo*).

Too too funny woman! You need to tune up your radar to catch those "important transmissions" and sort them out from the surrounding drivel! :)

If it was just a dream or if you actually agreed to it, you're the coolest mom on the block!! You win either way!

Better your back yard than someone else's--at least you'll know where he is!

i was hoping that, when my kids asked for all sorts of musical instruments to start a band, that i was dreaming. but noooooooo...instead, i'm going deaf from their tone-deafness!! but, hopefully they'll soon get bored of this...or start a new music trend!!

For about $60 you can get custom-fit earplugs from an audiologist. I had to get them because a certain someone in my house snores, but you could use a pair yourself, I think . . .

And I agree with Jenn, I preferred the noise of teenagers to their absence.

Better start investing in some of these! ;) Have fun!

LOL!

They always know how to best sneak the big ones right past you, don't they?

Think of how your neighbors would love you if you let him do this :)

mmm can little Billy actually play the guitar??

My son asked me for an electric guitar. I told him that once he could play the acoustic guitar I would gladly buy him an electric guitar..

3 months later I went and bought an electric guitar..

cheers kim

Have you bought the guitar yet ? ?

Oh, I am laughing so hard! Good Luck with Double K-B--catchy name, btw! ;)

Oh you poor dear!!

Jen said...

Maybe he'll let you play the drums in his band! That could be fun, and a great stress reliever. I say tell him that is the condition, if he starts a band, you get to be the drummer. Something tells me he will forget all about the idea.

rthling said...

Mmmmmm! SAWYER!
They should know better than to ask ANYTHING while LOST is on. Or maybe that's the point.

Oh God. I wonderf if I'll be in this path in the future...:-)

You are scaring me...this is what I see in my future with two boys. :)

Very funny! I'm looking forward to reading some stories about the backyard gazebo band ;). You fell for the oldest trick in the book!

For your sanity I hope you were dreaming!!

I think all moms are a little guilty of not totalling listening to our children -- especially during Lost. How dare someone interrupt Sawyer watching!

Pam said...

ha! Hey- at least if the band practices at your house - you will still know where little Billy is....what? not comforting? Okay then, let's just hope it was a dream! ;)

Haha! I love reading your stories, I never comment on them but this one hit home ha!
I remember when my son started his first band um some 5 years ago I felt the same way as you however they all practice in my family room during the summer Ergh! what a nightmare. You will get use to it and even be able to enjoy their music. Um my heart goes out to you just for a while you will learn to really sit back with coffee in hand and enjoy the music.... my son'e band is called NEXTDOOR you can hear their music at www.myspace.com/nextdoor

Your boy is smart... hit you when you're mesmerized! Very good strategy!

Hey, Van Halen ain't so bad ;)... I hear they're making really good ear plugs these days.

I enjoy reading your stories. This is another good one.

LOL! Change that 10 year old boy to a 27 year old man and you've pretty much written about my marriage. ;)

Weber said...

Too funny! Mine want to start a band as well. We have the guitar and the amplifier and the keyboard. However, my 7 year old really, really needs a drum set! LOL!

♥ Oh my! :) Yeah I don't think I could do the rock band thing. That reminds me of the new Freaky Friday when the mom pops the circut breaker to quiet them! :)

Rosemary Bogdan said...

At least you didn't say he could do it in your family room, or garage. Maybe there's an out. Those electric guitars just-the-right-size for a very young boy might be REALLY hard to find. I mean, maybe it would take years. You'd want to get exactly the right thing, you know.....good luck.

sawyer is MINE! haha! he IS so beautiful!

what a great theatre the gazebo would make! :)

Not the dreaded "We'll see!" I HATED that one as a kid!

Patti said...

Oh if you DID agree to it are you in for some fun times! Rock On Little Billy - Rock On!

Courtney said...

I hope you didn't actually agree to that, but if you did, you may be the coolest mom around to him and his friends.

Toni said...

Oh. That boy...

katy said...

I did the same thing and for many many years I had a band in the basement under my bedroom. Bass guitar, 2 electric guitars, drum sets....you name it. But they were home and safe and having a good time. Just a hint..wal mart sells a electric guitar/small amp combo fairly cheap. We bought that to begin with and when my son got good at playing it and kept it up we invested in a better amp and guitar. Check pawn shops too....

tammy said...

LOL....oh yeah, when will our kids (and hubbys) learn that we are NOT TO BE BOTHERED when we are lusting, er I mean watching our favorite men on TV?

Hope your neighbors like you!

When you hear the noises that sound like cats being strangled coming from your yard, you'll know it was not a dream.

Joanna said...

Hello? It's Sawyer!! That should be able to get you out of anything. I can't even remember my first name when he comes on the screen. hehe :) We'll call it the Sawyer defense.

Kelli said...

Hoping it was a dream. Keep us posted.

Kathryn said...

Uh-oh. You could be in some big trouble here, Kellan! My bro played drums in bands for years and it drove the whole family nuts.
I hope for your sake it was just a dream. ;)

My husband knows better than to ask me anything (or talk to me!) during Lost. And since my son is 10 months old he doesn't ask me anything (with words) and is asleep by the time shows like that are on tv. :)

Karen said...

Let's hope it was a dream. If not you'll have a hard time getting out of that one.

Leah said...

My husband would be all for the band idea, and he'd sign up as their drummer. LOL Have fun with it!!

Amy said...

Maybe he will forget about it. Or.... maybe he will be rich and famous one day!

Rachel said...

I hope it wasn't a dream because those pictures would be fabulous ;-)
LOL.
I have so missed being able to read you!
I hope you are fully recovered and back to being the wonderful darling you!

Rachel said...

Now this is a fabulous post and probably you agreed but under the influence. Well I wonder when Double K-B will release the first song and hit the radio.

bren j. said...

Now don't be too hasty, Kellan...boy bands can bring in a lot of money these days....think College Fund! :)

Carl & Kathy said...

That's hilarious. Makes me wonder what kind of tactics the kids have up their sleeves. Do they really know when we are the least attentive and most likely to give in to their requests? How smart are they?!

We should be proud as Moms!

MamaGeek said...

Seriously Kellan, do your kids have any idea what a cool Mom (and INTERNET SENSATION) you are?

TIS TRUE!

Elaine A. said...

So you were a little distracted. He understands that, right?

Mary said...

Ha! He's a clever one for knowing when to ask you! Too funny :)

Christine said...

sawyer would distract me too. he's one yummy specimen of a man!

Yvette said...

Oh...that boy....he's a smart one. He knows when to ask the important questions, doesn't he?

Maybe you could move the gazebo..tee-hee!

Better yet, maybe it really was just a dream.

Take care.
Yvette

okay, now i'm seriously curious -- WAS THIS REAL or a dream??

i'm hoping -- for your sake -- it was a dream!

thanks for making me smile once again, kellan. enjoy the day!

Jaina said...

Maybe there should be some rule that for the hour of LOST, you don't disturb Mom. That way you avoid such things. Of course then you'd have to get them to follow through on that....

Jennifer H said...

Sounds more like a nightmare...tons of good luck on this one!

Brittany said...

Mmm Sawyer... sorry, I missed the rest of what you said. :)

That Sawyer...he can make anyone lose their train of thought.

Either way you're in for a treat. Either peace and quiet or a fun boy band in your backyard. Just make sure they don't practice during LOST, the show even I will watch and make rash promises just to not miss something.
