Somebody Just Needs To SHOE-T Me!

There are 6 people in my family.

That means that there are 6 pairs of feet.

That means that there are lots and lots of shoes.

You have seen my shoes:

(I know - I will NEVER wear all of these shoes)

And ... this is where I keep my shoes - in my closet!

The rest of the characters living in my house, however ...

Leave their work boots in the living room ...

Their softball cleats by the garage door ...

Their basketball shoes in the family room ...

Their favorite Vans near the couch ...

Their darling little black and white flats by the front door ...

And ... their stinky Converses on the kitchen table.

On the upside ... I guess I'm lucky to have all these shoes around my house ... because that means I got all these people living here with me and that's a good thing. Every time I see a pair of shoes lying around, I yell for the person that owns them to put them away - I do. But ... when I stop and think about it ... I do not look forward to the day that all these shoes are gone. I do not look forward to living in this house ... without all these characters and their shoes!

WOW thats a ton of shoes! I thought I loved shoes but I dont even have that many!

Great minds must think alike because I have gone around my house with the camera & taken pics of all of the shoes left EVERYWHERE.
They never made it to my blog though - glad yours did.

Seriously, I think they have therapy groups for shoe addictions.

I love the little black and white ones!! ;)

So here's the question... do you have as many clothes as you do shoes?

Andrea said...

WOW!! That would drive me insane. But you do make a good point -- I'd rather have the shoes and the characters than no shoes and no characters.

Stella said...

My word you have a lot of shoes!!! :)

Mine are at the bottom of my steps....I never know where they are if they aren't there!

You make me proud to be a woman. Look at that closet and those shoes!! I love it!

And I'm LOL that you didn't just tell us where those other shoes are, but actually showed us where they are.

I'm in agreement though, I don't look forward to the day when I don't have anyone's stuff lying around to clean up.

Fun post!

That closet is to be proud of!

Well the good side of this is that some of them belong to those gorgeous girls of yours. We have shoes all over the house here also but they belong to males and males have STINKY feet. I keep saying I am going to throw all of their shoes outside but then the UPS man would pass out in my garage and refuse to come back and bring me scrapbook goodies and I can not allow that to happen.

Have a great week.

Holy moley! I've never seen so many shoes outside a shoe store! I know where I'm headed when I can't find a pair to wear.

More importantly, where did you find the shoe hanger upper device? I've been looking for that exact thing to hang inside our closet for the wee ones to hang their shoes on rather than throwing them randomly in the closet and cannot find one ANYwhere!

girlytwins said...

We might be show soul sisters. I buy shoes that I then need to buy outfits to match :)

I walk around and pick up at least 7 pairs of shoes every night. However I also am not looking forward to the day when it's just 2 pairs of shoes laying around.

I'm always tripping over shoes at my house to but I like what you said about one day missing them and the characters that go with them. Great post.

Rachel said...

I am now coveting your shoes. Do you perchance wear a 9 1/2 - 10? Because if you do, I'm coming for your shoes.

I have about 10 pair. I am coming for your shoe closet. I am drooling, salivating, panting even... over those shoes.

Wow.

I have thought of writing this exact same post!

And all will sing praise for the mighty shoe closet. :)

A woman after my own heart! I love shoes, all kinds.

Awesome closet and even better...those shoe racks. Where does one find racks to accomodate so many pairs?!? Oh, do tell!

What a great post...

I try and keep that same mentality when I find Connor with his face pressed up against the glass, hands on either side of his face, leaving allllll sorts of greasy slobbery messy smudges on the glass. And when I find toys scattered EVERYWHERE. It's the stuff that drives me crazy NOW that I know I will desperately miss later. Good for you for remembering to enjoy it now!

DysFUNctional Mom said...

Ew, stinky shoes on the table!
That's a good reminder to enjoy it while we have it.

My eyes are still bugging out from that awesome shoe collection. Holy moly!!!

I love the way you think. The next time I stumble over T's running shoes or J's tennis shoes, I'll smile instead of swear :)

We have a similar shoe problem around here. That is until I brought home the new puppy, that is still teething. Amazing how quickly our shoe, putting away problem, worked itself out.

Have a good week.

Natalie said...

You are very lucky to have all the owners of those shoes in your house...even if they do leave them laying all around. My husband and daughter tend to do the same thing with their shoes...I think mom's are the only ones who put their shoes away.

Amanda said...

Kellan, you are a woman after my own heart with all those shoes! And for all the other shoes, that looks very familiar..! ( six people in my house too)

Debbie said...

Amen Kellan! Enjoy those tiny and bigger feet while they are there...

But seriously, why in all that's smelly do you have so many shoes?

Whoa! You have a lot of shoes there!

What a boot collection you have. I hate having all those shoes around the house since it's always me that has to find them. But I don't think I've ever found a pair on my table...ha ha.

Your shoes are awesome! I could probably walk around my house and take some similar pictures of my families' footwear!

wow. That's a lot of shoes. I am not a shoe person, I only have a few pairs.
But - shoes lying around the house drives me bananas! I always trip on them!

rthling said...

Okay, I wavered between two reactions to your pictures of your shoes.
Reaction number one:
HO-LY-STINK-IN-COW! That's a LOT of shoes! I only have one of those racks, and it's not even full.
Reaction number two:
Oh, lookie! Kellan has a shoe store in her closet!
Makes me wonder. Do you wear them all, in spite of your declaration of the opposite? Or do you stick with a favorite few, and occasionally sport the rest?
And I think the rest of the shoes tell a cute story.
Nice post!

suz said...

This is cute. I agree. How come we are the only ones who know where to put our shoes????

Kel said...

Wow...you sure do like shoes huh? :) Seriously though, I might need to borrow a pair - do you air express??

The shoes on the table are KILLING me. I would have to draw the line there LOL

I guess I am not a true woman... Because I only have ONE pair of shoes. *sigh* ... I think there must be something wrong with me. (Even the kids all have more than me!)

WOW you have a ton of shoes. Lately, I seem to only wear flip flops. I guess that's what happens when you work from home. Makes me kind of miss getting dressed up to go to work ... ok ... not really ;-)

Whoa, that's a load of shoes! You could open a shoe store with those :D
In my house, we have six people too...and there are always several pairs here and there, and it drives me nuts!

Awww...that is a good way to look at it and now I'm not so upset that my daughter has 3 pair of shoes in various places downstairs (her room is upstairs). But I still don't want them on the kitchen table!!! lol

Rosemary Bogdan said...

I am LOL!!! This looks just like my house only we are worse. And you know what? (Sometimes I'm as bad as the rest of them so I can't complain much.) Love your shoe organization!

Karen said...

Wow, you guys have a lot of shoes!!!

Adrian said...

Your shoe organization is awesome! You're so organized - I'm jealous!

I do have a great answer for the shoe proliferation. Anytime they leave their shoes laying around, put them away. Just don't put them away where they expect you to put them. Put them in the garage, the laundry room, under the back porch, underneath the kitchen sink. When they ask about them, say "I don't know - did you leave them laying around? I remember putting some shoes away, but I don't remember where I put them, guess you'll have to look around and find them". When they get tired of playing hide and seek with their shoes, they'll remember to put them away.

Shari/"Whiger" said...

Hear, Hear.

I holler about shoes, too. What gets me is that the kids can do upstaris empty-handed and come back down with another pair. Why not go upstairs with the other shoes to return them where they belong?

Then again, I am not alone. I have people living with me. RIght on.

Marmarbug said...

I am loving all of your shoes! My hubby loves to leave his shoes wherever. DRIVES me NUTS!

Pregnantly Plump said...

Wow! What a collection you have! I have to admit that I am the one who leaves her shoes all over the house. Sometimes by the door, sometimes by the couch, sometimes in the playroom. It's a terrible habit that I am probably unintentionally teaching Little Elvis.

I couldn't wear any of your sandals because none of them have backs. I would kill myself. However, I'm stealing your boots. Tell me they're size 6 1/2? Please?

Wendi said...

Seething with jealously over all those shoes!
Not so jealous about the shoes on the table.
I have the same problem.
It is a losing battle... me trying to keep everything tidy...four others trying not to.
I loved your "on the upside" comment.
So true.
I am off to go check on my characters!

Amy said...

Other people's(in my family)shoes drive me nuts!!!

Jaina said...

My goodness that's a lot of shoes. And I thought I had a lot. (maybe 15 or 20 pairs) But then again, I hate shoes, I think they're torture devices for your feet, I'd rather be barefoot. I hate buying shoes because they're expensive and I don't like wearing them anyways, so I really don't see the point. I only wear shoes when necessary...I get away with flip flops most of the year. But really, that is an admirable shoe collection, you probably never have a problem finding shoes that match what you want to wear.

Catizhere said...

I'll try to remember that when I trip over Joe's shoes in the living room.

Thanks Kellan, for always finding the positive. You put a little sunshine in my day.

Here-here!!!

I used to have your shoe problem and then I was pregnant. After the pregnancy my feet went up a whole size!!!

I'm still a little sensitive about the subject.

Well my dear I think you may have given Imelda Marcos a run for her money with all those shoes...how fun!!

I love the shoes all over the place, my house is a bit like that too.

Not loving the converse on the kitchen table...I can see my boy mindlessly doing that too! lol

Sniz said...

I have a similar problem around here, only the individual shoes are ALWAYS separated by a room or so so that they can not both be found when they are needed, necessitating tears.

I think you may hold the world record for woman with the most shoes!!! WOW!!!

Like yours, mine leave their shoes all over the house too - usually somewhere where I can trip over them - but I HATE it when they put their shoes ON a table that we eat off of. BLECH!!

Brenda said...

I wade through shoes around here too, other people's shoes. And wow, you've got a lotta shoes!

Kelli said...

I think your shoes post was my first post of your to read. I think of it often because I dont know anyone with that many pairs of shoes and I wish I had them all. Well and a place to put them. Love love love your shoes

Carl & Kathy said...

you know, you are right. Sometimes I get so irked by the messes the kids leave, but on days when they are gone, things are just too clean, too tidy and I miss that. It's good to live in a house that is truly lived in.

I hardly read anything after seeing all of your shoes! That is me heaven :)

That's a whole lot of shoes around the house but you are right, you will miss those characters when they depart with their shoes!

Elaine A. said...

This post is making me smile from ear to ear!! First of all, that shoe collection of yours is pretty awesome.

Second, I love the way you wrote about how each pair of these shoes reminds you to cherish those who wear them. Who knew a "shoe post" could be so sweet?!

Elaine A. said...

Oh and P.S. wish my mother could have seen it this way when we were kids! ; )

Becky said...

I LOVED this post, Kellan. Soooo true. Same story at my house...drives me nuts tripping over everyone's clodhoppers, but I know I'll miss the day when the boys are grown and gone and there are no more kid shoes strewn about.

By then I'll probably have grandkids hanging around though. ;)

I have 3 sisters and we all had the bad habit of leaving our shoes everywhere. If my mom had to pick them up, she would hide them and charge us $5 a pair. Yep- lessons learned the hard way.

I've seen your shoes before and I still want those leopard boots. LOL They are great. Good way of looking at all of those shoes. My grnadbabies and daughter and son in law are living with us until they find a bigger home so maybe I should look at all the stuff around like that. Great post!!

Bonnie the Boss said...

I really dislike dirty shoes on the table. We have a basket by each door that all the shoes go in. I sometimes go through them and match them up and send them to the proper rooms.
I wonder what will happen to the shoe baskets when the kids are gone.
They will be sad and lonely shoe baskets.

Adrian said...

Now that I think about it, I can live with the shoes all around the house. That's not so bad. It's the darn SOCKS that get to me. My kids shed socks like trees shed leaves!

I only take my socks off in one place - my bedroom when I'm getting ready for bed. And then they go right into the hamper. I never understand why these guys feel the need to take their stinky nasty socks off all over the house. Strange creatures, these boys.

laurwilk said...

My dad is a stickler for putting things away. But in our house of 10, few things are ever in their appropriate spot.

My dad yelled at me for 18 years to put my shoes away. It was probably the one thing I was yelled at for most often. But now whenever I go home, he doesn't mind that my shoes are by the front door, by the back door and in the middle of the kitchen. I think it's because he is just happy to see my shoes, period!

just jamie said...

First of all, holy shoes! Holy, holy shoes. That's all I can say. AND, I was working on a post very similar to this (and by working on, I mean I had this blip of an idea, but YOU just made it much brighter). :)

Steph said...

I can't get past all of those shoes! That is quite a collection. I can totally feel your pain on the shoes left all over the house (right down to the shoes found on the kitchen table!)
