It's Been A Great Summer!

The On The Upside family has had a fabulous summer!

The kids are now back in school and as much as the mom should be happy about some time alone - she is not ready for school to begin.

Alexis was ready!

She coudn't wait to start 2nd grade!

She didn't even look back.

Little Billy headed off for his first day of middle school. I must have told him 100 times to make sure he takes notes - write EVERYTHING down!

"I got it, Mom - I can handle this," he insisted.

I certainly hope so. He's got 7 teachers this year and ... I do not have the time to spend my days going from class to class with that boy!

Then there were those teenager girls. Courtney and Chloe are juniors this year and driving themselves to school. I was so nervous - I made them call me yesterday to tell me they made it there alright. It's really the parking that worried me most.

They called - they made it! Now they just have to make it there and back again tomorrow and the next day and the next day .......

They are driving the Pathfinder we bought for them to use until their daddy finishes that '69 Mustang. I think they want the Mustang finished, but ... they were awful happy to have their own car to drive to school.

Like I said ...

I should be happy to have the kids out of my hair.

I do like spending my days doing things that I need to do - getting things done while they are at school.

I like the peace and quiet.

I like making lists and getting busy on chores and projects - filling the fall months with days of cleaning and organizing - shopping and changing things in my house.

I like working in the yard with no one yelling "CAN YOU COME MAKE ME SOME LUNCH?"

I like going to lunch with my girl friends.

I like all of these things.

But ...

I like summer ...

BETTER!

I AM NOT ready for summer to end!

It flew by too fast!

We spent a lot of time at the lake, but ...

We never made it to the beach.

We spent many mornings sleeping in.

We watched a lot of movies and way to much TV.

We spent fun times with family and friends.

We didn't do all the things we had hoped we would get to, but ...

It has been a wonderful summer!

I feel the same way...it always goes by too fast. Jack starts grade 2 in one more day and I can't even believe it. I can't even imagine he'll be driving to school before I know it!

Thank goodness summer comes every year!

I hate/love when they go back to school, too. Time flies just too darn fast these days. How can we slow it?

Excellent post, as always! Love the recap of summer :)

It went by WAY too fast, didn't it? Hope you all have a great school year ahead and that the girls stay safe driving! AHHH!

I hope all your kids had a great first day. Mine start on Monday. I think they are looking forward to it.

We didn't get to do some of the things we hoped doing either.

I love summer, and I'll miss it. And we didn't get to do everything we'd planned.
But still, I was ready for school to start.
So.ready.

I'm glad it's going well so far!

The summer break does go in way to fast!

Enjoy your peaceful day Kellan!

CRY! I don't want summer to end either! That means it's gonna be cold here in a few months and this California girl HATES Ohio winters! CRY CRY CRY!

I love those first day of school pictures, seeing the changes from year to year. Little Billy will have 7 teachers in middle school? Wow, I've been moaning about Zach's 3, but I think it's 7 next year (louder moan). You sure do have some pretty babies Miz Kellan!

I'm already grieving summer too, even though I know it's not officially over till Sept. 23rd. School always feels like the beginning of the end of those lazy days for me.

Ellyn said...

I am not ready either. My oldest starts preschool in a few weeks. I am so not ready. I think I will cry the first day.

I hope your kids had a great first day.

I know what you mean. Our kids started to school yesterday and it's so very, very, very nice to have quiet and uninterrupted days. But summer flew by too fast.

To everything has a season....or something like that. (I believe there was a song along those lines, I just can't remember the words or who).
It's great to have those memories & to make more this fall. Football games, roasting marshmallows, bonfires....it can be good too.
Enjoy your alone time (I am) and let's have lunch.:)

With all of the fun you and your family had this summer, I would not want it to end either.

Unfortunately my summer was spent recovering from back surgery. But next year, I am determined not to have back surgery, and I am coming to your house for the summer.;)

If that is okay with you.....;)

Enjoy your free time, Mom!

God Bless,
Amy:)

I am totally bummed that summer is almost over! I feel like I missed it mostly - because we spent so much time with the move and on both houses. It is so great to be out of that neighborhood, though, that it was all worth it!

Yes, I agree, Summer flew by so quickly. I hear myself say that often...where did the time go? I have been ready for school (because I thought things would calm down) but I was wrong...this pace is steady and it doesn't seem to be slowing any time soon. At least we still have the warm weather to enjoy for a little longer!!

My sentiments exactly! My 11yr old started middle school this year also. I was more afraid than he was.
Though summer is fast paced, school time is fast paced too! I'd rather be fast paced in the summer with my kid!

Kathryn said...

This summer flew by much too quickly, I agree. :(

What a great post...I loved all the pictures. Your summer really did look like a lot of fun! I'm sorry to see it end as well.

Kelly said...

I'm sad to see summer end as well. We had a great one but still didn't get around to everything we wanted to. The boys are excited to be back in school but I miss them. It's kind of wierd having only one little one around to demand my attention....although Aiden is loving having me to himself!

Courtney said...

Why does it go by so fast? I'm glad yours was good.

CUTE post!

Summer did fly by, :( but hopefully so will the school year so we can do it all over again!

I am with you. I look forward to a bit more quiet. But then when I have it, I miss my noisy bunch. Summer did fly by way to fast and I'm sure the school year will be moving along just as fast.

Love your pictures for this post. Have a great one Kellan!

I'm with you, Kellan. I LOVE summer. Love having my kids home. My junior in high school started school yesterday and even though there was a car available I drove him. And today I drove him again. And then I thought maybe I'll let him drive tomorrow. And then I wondered if he'd mind if I asked him to call me when he gets there!! Kindred spirits, you and I.
My little girls don't start until 9/3! which I really like. Then they actually are home for the whole summer. Weather-wise it's still summer! Even here in Michigan. Take care!

That is so funny! I never realized that our oldest kidlets are the same age, as well as your youngest and my oldest girl. My youngest boy started 7th grade today.

I've got about 3 more years before I get the house to myself during the day! I can't wait!

I'm not a fan of Summer myself. I'm dying for late fall/early winter to get here. :)

Janet said...

I'm actually looking forward to school starting, but then, mine aren't in school yet so I've had them 24/7 for over 4 1/2 years now. I imagine in 3 years, when the youngest starts kindergarten, I will be a bit lonely. That being said, I have a HUGE list of things that will probably still need to be done by then!

Looks like a great summer!

I love summer . . . especially in our wonderful climate. But I REALLY miss water since we moved away from MN. Ahhhhhh - so envious of the time you've gotten to spend at the lake.

But, I'll take our hiking, camping, biking, playing baseball, hanging out with friends, etc. etc. etc. as well :-)

Cheffie-Mom said...

What fun summer memories. The pictures are great! It does seem like the summers get shorter and shorter and go by faster and faster! I hope your kiddos had a great first day of school. (:

I've always been a big summer fan, but I think as Little Elvis gets older I will prefer that season more and more.

OHmommy said...

You had them call?

That is something I would do myself too. I just cant wait for my kids to FINALLY go to school.

It is so wonderful that you had such a great summer. I hope everyone had a wonderful first day of school. Can we come hang with yall next summer? You have way more fun than we do. :)

I really wish schools wouldn't start until after Labor Day! I can never get enough summer.

Love the pictures - except the bee!

Becky said...

Awww, I know exactly how you feel. Looks like you all had a WONDERFUL summer...and the kids look excited to be going back to school.

So do the girls trade off days driving? That's such an exciting stage of life...the freedom of a first set of wheels. I'm sure they'll do just fine.

I hope they have a wonderful first day back. In Canada we start on the 2nd and I have to say, I am ready.

I loved the summer shots though...

I would agree that this summer flew by way too fast, but which one doesn't. I like to play and hang out with the boys but it's also been a nice change to focus on some things that I have been neglecting due to lack of time or focus!

Love all your summer pics!

You're right...it did fly by and it WAS glorious. But you know...I kind of get excited about the new school year...fresh starts and all that.

I wish I could just have a taste of what its like to have Aaron go to school and I stay at home to do WHATEVER. Its probably not as great as I imagine it but right now, I'd love to have just a little sample of it :)

Lots of firsts! I remember the first time I drove to school. I felt SO cool and free! And then I had to share the car with my stupid brother and that ruined that.

Is that some sort of people-eating bee? Good grief! It looks huge!
