Baubles, Beads And Blue Bloods

We've all known of people that love to climb mountains.

I have to imagine, if I believed in reincarnation, that people like that might have likely been ... say ... a billy-goat, in a previous life.

And ... if you are one of those people that is drawn to the sea - just love the ocean ... it is reasonable to assume - if you believed in reincarnation - that those sorts of people might have been either a pirate or a boat captain - in a previous life. They might also have been ... say ... a clam or jellyfish.

I know exactly what I was in a previous life.

I was definitely a QUEEN!

Alexis was too!

I think she and I were in the same blue-blood family - we are so much alike!

I contribute this belief, primarily due to my ... love of jewels.

My love for glistening crystals.

My love for dangly things - such as colorful beads or feathers.

Not real jewels, necessarily. Not real crystals. But ... those types of baubles adorned to clothing - making the shirt of boot or blouse or jeans - the gaudy, glittery spectacle - ONLY a QUEEN might wear!

Alexis and I love ... sequins, rhinestones, feathers, gems, beads ... any sort of beautiful, gaudy bauble - LOVE THEM!

Many mornings, Alexis will wander into my room and rummage through my jewelry boxes in search of some glassy jewel she can wear with her outfit to school. It could be a necklace or a bracelet or a pin.

I share my JEWELS freely with my little blue-blooded darling, as I know the need to adorn one's self with trinkets and jewels and ... I understand how this desire to lavish herself - her blue-blood body ... is beyond her control.

The other morning, she meandered into my room for me to brush her hair for school.

Once I was done - pulling her tresses into a simple pony-tail on top of her head, she turned to me and said, "I'd like a bun today," and then she turned her little blue-blood head around for me to get to work.

I twisted.

I twirled.

I piled.

I pinned.

It was a bun.

As I was about to push the final bobby-pin into the beautiful bun on the top of her head, she turned to me, frustrated, and said, "No, no, no," her tone was calm - but demanding. "I want this," and she held her hand up to my face.

On the upside ... I did what she asked and could not help but smile. I watched my little QUEEN as she walked out of my room - her hair piled in a neat bun on the top of her head - held perfectly in place with a big ol' GAUDY, RHINESTONE COVERED, QUEEN LOOKIN' hair pin - sticking out the top. I yelled after her ... "You look beautiful. Don't lose my pin." HEY ... you never know when I might need to wear the thing.

Your shoe stash is going to be in trouble in a few years.

As long as it was Alexis and not Little Billy, you have nothing to worry about.

You are the Queen as far as I'm concerned.

It's great to have someone to share your love of glitz, and I'm sure she looked perfectly Regal.

Oh Kellan honey, y'all are such Texas gals! :-) LOL.

We do love us some sparkles and baubles don't we? :-)

Persnickety Ticker said...

Sounds like y'all are kindred spirits to me and my little princess. The sparklier, the better.

My daughter refuses to wear anything that doesn't sparkle, shine, glisten, glitter, or isn't bedazzled.

Guess that makes us fish in a previous life.

I love it! That's too fun for both of you.

And I hate to point it out, but ... it's possible that you were both raccoons in a former life, too ;)

What a great story. Isn't it fun to have a little mini version of yourself!

Ooooh yes, watch the shoes. My oldest has taken over rights to my shoes...and my shirts...even will from time to time come request the ponytail holder or bobbypin from my hair. BUT, she just slid into a pair of my shoes that DIDN'T FIT HER anymore. He, he! It won't be long and she will be sailing right on past my sizes (I'm a super shorty-pants compared to her dad's side of the family, which she is clearly following) and then I will be safe...until the NEXT one gets to my size...then the next, and the next.

♥ Me too, I would have been a queen although I wouldn't want to be one of those ones that were beheaded and back then if you were plump it was a good thing! :)

Hilarious! I think I was rich in a previous life and have to keep reminding myself to cut coupons. It really is a shocker sometimes LOL.

Too funny Kellan! Since I am such a huge BLINGY kind of girl...I do believe that I was a princess in my former life!!! I absolutely adore BLINK of ANY kind!! Oh, I wish you had snapped a pic of Alexis' Bun with the pin! I remember sharing all those fun things with my daughter too!

The older I get, the more I resemble a Christmas tree.

Given my love of the beach and sparkles, baubles, glitter etc. I am firmly convinced I was a Mermaid Princess a la' Ariel.....

BTW I love your profile pics. You're pretty.

Aww, that's adorable. I can appreciate the love you and your daughter have for shiny, sparkley jewelry. I love it so much that I learned how to make jewelry, which is great because now I can co-ordinate what I make with the outfits I have, exactly as I'd like it. (My friends love me making jewelry too, because they know they'll get something along those lines for Christmas gifts!)

It's adorable that your daughter has the same love and appreciation that you do. Too cute.

We must have been sisters in our former lives, lol. Maybe I should move to Texas.

Just yesterday at the mall I snatched up 3 packages of shiny hair rhinestones "just in case."

I love the fact that Alexis is Kellan's mini me. That is so cute.

We like gaudy around here also. Maybe it's a southern thang.

I think you had better lock up your jewels!
I wish i had a little girl to share things like taht with ~ don't think my boys would like me dressing them up!
See you later 'Queen Kellan!'

I am a blue jeans/t-shirt kinda girl. No accesories for me. However, I think my daughter must have been part of this blue-blood family you speak of. She won't leave the house unless she has on something that will blind at least three people during the course of the day!

Pregnantly Plump said...

So funny! I wasn't a jewel-type girl, but my mom was my short-order stylist most mornings. I remember saying, "I want a braid on each side and a bun in the middle," and she would happily do it for me. Obviously, I still fondly remember those times, so I'm sure Alexis will too.

Katie said...

too funny. See that's the only reason I'm not sad I don't have girls... I don't have to do hair. I defintiely was NOT a queen.

Sometimes I too find myself attracted to extremely flashy jewels for no apparent reason other than the glitz and glamour.

It's so wonderful; you two being two peas in a pod. Or two jewels in a bauble box.

Oh Kellan now THIS IS WHY I want a girl someday. I think I was a dog in my previous life since I'm so partial to furballs and such.

Okay, that is just plain hilarious. What are you going to do when she turns 13? 16? 18? You might just have to start a secret stash!

Thanks for the laugh Kellan!
