These KEDS Were NOT Made For Walking

I've mentioned before that I am a ... list maker.

Lots of lists.

Lots of stuff to do.

One of the mental lists I have going right now in my head is the Kellan Needs To Do List.

It is different from my other To-Do lists in that it has only to do with those things I know I need to START doing or those things I need to STOP doing - you know. Like how I need to stop saying the word sh*t every time I drop something. That has been on my Kellan Needs To Do List --- for YEARS!

Still doin' it!

Need to STOP!

So ...

Currently on my Kellan Needs To Do List is ...
  • I need to START getting up earlier in the mornings.
  • I need to STOP being so fat.
  • I need to START walking.
  • I need to STOP eating so many daggum RED HOTS!

So ...

In an attempt to address all of these current issues - try to get myself to get moving and motivated to address these problems ...

I went ...

SHOPPING.

I went to ROSS.

I got up early ...

Skipped breakfast and left my jar and bags of RED HOTS at home, and ...

I WALKED all over that store!

Okay ...

I did buy some sneakers ...

You know ...

For walking (*Kellan's heart begins to race at the sheer thought of actually ever having to go on a real walk - for exercise - *gasp* - *shortness of breath* - *gasp*).

After I bought my new pair of tennies ... I went back and bought me another pair.

Now, I have two pairs ...

Of brand spanking new KEDS.

I do love a brand spanking new, really white, clean new leather - pair of tennies. I do love KEDS. I got a deal on these KEDS at Ross and could not resist buying a second pair.

Now, they are beautiful and they are clean and fit really well, but ...

These KEDS are NOT made for walking!

I know that.

I know that these are not proper walking footwear attire.

These are not walking sneakers.

I don't care!

They are cute.

And ...

I am not investing in a pair of serious walking shoes until ...

I actually begin to ...

WALK!

For now ...

I am walkin' around in my KEDS.

I put them on my feet and walk everywhere in them - see ...

Here I am - walkin' around my room.

Here I am - walkin' from my bedroom out onto my deck.

Here I am in my car on the way to the dentist office.

Here are me an my KEDS arriving at the dentist office.

Here we are in the dentist office waiting room - me and Alexis and my new KEDS!

One day ...

I might actually walk away from my house ...

Into the neighborhood ...

Down roads and paths and sidewalks and ...

I might even work up a bit of a stride.

A bit of a sweat.

Maybe even work on my form.

*tee hee - Kellan begins to work up a sweat just thinking about ... working up a sweat*

On the upside ... I'm working on it! I'm taking baby steps - in my KEDS. What I really need to do next is ... just get out there and go walking *gasp*. Or ... better yet --- go shopping again. Put on those pretty new, white KEDS, walk out to my car, drive across town to Marshalls, walk right in and and buy myself some cute new ... walking clothes.

*hear off in the distance the entire On The Upside family laughing their heads off*

Hee Hee you always make me giggle with your posts!! What did the other people in the dentist office think of you taking pictures of your shoes in the waiting room?

Ohhhh I've got me some of that need to do list, too. But hey, you're working your way up to it, good job! You've ummmm taken the first step (ok, I know that was a really bad pun, but I couldn't resist).

Until I realized that was Alexis sitting across from you, I was totally cracking up at the thought of your taking a picture of your shoes in a dentist's office with other people around!

Phew! I'm finally starting to get a little caught up here...this post is hilarious! My to-do list looks awfully similar to yours only scratch the red hots because - yikes! - I don't think I could eat too many of those without permanently damaging my poor little tastebuds. That particular 'word' is on a list too....since I'm a little paranoid it's going to end up being the LG's first word. Can you imagine? My inlaws would be HORRIFIED!

Now Kellan, you do know that breakfast is THE most important meal of the day, don't you? ;)

Love the Keds. :)

LOL! Do you suppose eventually you'll get to the walking part...you know after you buy the walking clothes, shoes and gear?

I can't FIND my to-do list under all the crap we have around while renovating! But it's there, and it's looming.

Second you on that walking bit. I need to do a lot of that too. I used to be so much better at the exercise thing...I went to Tae Kwon Do class sometimes 4-5 times a week! Not anymore. I'm lucky if I go up and down the stairs 6 times a day. If I lived near you, I'd be right there with ya, walking with someone is always easier for me!

You're preaching to the choir sweetie! I have the best of all intentions, but really I just HATE exercise.

I don't buy shoes - I've had the same old ratty pair of Nikes for like four years, but I buy exercise videos. I have about a 2 foot high stack of them. I do use some of them, but not enough to make a big difference.

Well you know you are the shoe guru and you have spoken on this very matter. However, if you're fat than I must be an island.

All hail the guru! :)

I walk...the mall. With the old people. I'm in FL. It's hot here. I also pass out often. Safer at the mall. Plus me and the old people trade war stories and scars. Hehehe. I love when I one up them with the number of heart attacks and the being dead so often. I should start taking my camera. Oh the looks.

But good for you for at least planning on shopping for exercise clothes. I just realized that there is only one letter difference between exercise and exorcise. Weird. OK. Ramble over.

Good one! I like the working up a sweat thinking of working up a sweat. Very cute shoes! (But FAT? Oh, Puh-leeeze!)

DysFUNctional Mom said...

If you start walking, you may get them dirty, and then they wouldn't be pretty white Keds any more. So, maybe you shouldn't risk it.

Nancy said...

You "walk" just like me =)

I need to find me some KEDS like those. (No Ross stores in MI)

Mamarazzi said...

fantastic post...as always!

i have a pair of shoes for the gym and a pair of shoes for walking outside...the exercise kind of walking...my gym shoes never go outdoors, they are special.

Oh Kellan...there's NO question. The clothes and shoes are essential. How can we girls feel good about getting any exercise at all if we don't LOOK GOOD!

Laura said...

I'm with you all over that "baby steps" idea...and KEDS are for cute outfits not for sweaty jogs on the treadmill.
Speaking of ROSS.
I LOVE ROSS.
It is a disorganized, messy little store but I get an adrenline rush just going in.
And Target does the same thing to me.
I'm easy.

You can do it, Kellan!

(I love new, clean sneakers, too. Usually Converse.)

I LOVE Keds, I used to wear them all the time. Where did my Keds go? Is there a Keds heaven?

I want a bright red pair (but white has always been my fave too!)

Hey your Keds are seeing some action lady!!!

You know shopping always provides the best walking environment! hehe :)

Nice! Two pairs, great deal! Step one is getting those walking shoes, but for now enjoy your baby steps in your new Keds and maybe one day you'll get those walking shoes. But until then, enjoy looking for 'em!

Ellyn said...

Ok so after you buy the shoes and the clothes you will have to buy a water bottle. All that sweating will make you work up a thirst. I can' totally see why you need to take it slow. Baby steps kellan.

I love a nice clean pair of Keds...if you put some of those gel inserts in them, they should be o.k. for walking...all over the mall. ;)

Stacie said...

ROFLMAO....you and keds are gonna go far baby!

Those do look darn cute on your feet, they look so tiny.

So why do you want to get up earlier??? My goal is to sleep longer, not shorter.

tammy said...

A girl after my own heart. My list looks amazingly exactly like yours! Except for the red hots. And shopping counts as a work out as long as you power walk those aisles....And do it in cute shoes....And cute walking clothes.

Mama Smurf said...

I say you should go for a long walk at a large local mall....that way, when your feet start bothering you from the improper foot wear you have lots of shoe stores at your disposal to correct the situation.

Love'n the Keds!

Threeundertwo said...

I love Keds, and I wear them until they wear out.

Loved the idea of taking pictures of your feet as they go on your errand. Very cute!

Tee hee, I bought some new walking shoes too. I haven't walked in them yet. Maybe later today.

Laurels word said...

I love keds, I haven't had any in a while but they look so good on your feet I may have to go get some!

I made the same list. I've been to the gym for a month now and I secrely hate it but I know if I want to get rid of my jiggle I have to go.

Thanks Kellan :)

I love your keds pictures. too damn funny. you always make me laugh. what about walking to get red hots?

Courtney said...

You crack me up with the pictures of your beautiful shoes!

Kristy - Where's My Damn Answer said...

I used to buy keds every summer - but I always loved the backless ones the best. Now I seem to spend most of my time in flip flops since I work out of our home the majority of the time.

Fun pictures :D

I love white tennis shoes and I would agree that you might need to sport some new walking clothes for whenever the urge strikes you to get walkin'!

Karen said...

I love the foot shots! A friend of mine takes pictures of his feet at all sorts of interesting places. It's his own, personal way to take self-portraits ...

Denise Wheeler said...

Wow, where have I been? I didn't even know they still made KEDS. Love the post. Your "to do list" sounds a whole lot like mine.

Leah said...

LOL It's a start!!

Pregnantly Plump said...

I love that you call them tennies! I used to do that, but no one ever knew what I was talking about. I now try to call them sneakers, but tennies just sound so much appropriate to me.

Shannon said...

Oh so many places these shoes could take you. I'd love to read more and see more pics of these new white keds. Thanks for the laughter today!

Jaina said...

There's just something wonderful about a shiny new pair of clean, brand new shoes.

Bia said...

You'll get such a workout running around buying clothes/shoes for your workout that you won't actually NEED workout.

I think I just confused myself.

Cute keds . . . I need a new pair, too.

Tabitha said...

I totally love your new shoes ~ they are great!! I have been power walking for the last few months ~ since I started this (damn) diet ~ and it has really helped!!
Love and hugs to you XXXXXXXXXXX

I bet the receptionist at the dentist's office was wondering why you were taking pictures! HA! It IS so hard to start exercising. I can't seem to d it, either. Maybe if I had some walking gear...

dani said...

i hear you, kellan... i need to walk; i need new walking shoes, too. but, i wouldn't want to get my walking shoes dirty walking??? it's just a real dilemma, HA!!!

LOL! Baby steps Kellan!

Oh and when you need real walking shoes...try Ryka! I love them!

Betsy said...

Hey baby steps are good!! I took a baby step, I am taking a walking class at school. DOes that count?

Kelly said...

I know it's warmer where you live, but hopefully it's not quite as hot as summer. I love walking in fall when I can throw on some fleece, grab my ipod and go. Now, to be honest, that doesn't happen very often....just trying to get you motivated! LOL My guilty pleasure right now is candy corn so I hear ya loud and clear! :)

Jyl @ MommyGossip said...

Very cute post! Love the pics. Fun idea :).

Kami said...

You funny!

Go walking, you will be so glad you did and you won't want to stop! I started with walking and now I am running.

Yes, running, with sweat and everything.

And I have NEVER felt better.

My mom couldn't abide brand new white sneakers--she had us bury them in the yard before she wore them. My Social Butterfly is all about the white Vans.

Laura said...

You crack me up - no kedding!

I'm glad you told us that was Alexis in the dentist office with you....I just knew that person sitting accross from you was wondering what on earth you were doing taking a picture of your feet. HA!!

Cute Keds - BTW.

Will you please go outside and get those shoes dirty! You're blinding us with them!
