We Should Be Okay

Thanks to everyone that has offered well wishes to me and my family over concern about hurricane Ike heading for Texas.

We are well south of Ike's current anticipated path and the way it looks right now, we might even avoid getting much rain. Excessive rain is a serious concern for us in Texas - as we flood easily and quickly. In 1998 we had serious rains and a 500 year flood event here where I live (the entire city) and we sustained serious flood damage at my house that year, so I am always nervous when there are predictions of hurricanes coming or significant rains. We have not flooded at my house since 1998, but it is likely to happen again one day and I am always worried.

For now - we look to be safe from Ike and I appreciate everyones concerns and well wishes. I know there are several of my blog friends that have had to evacuate their homes and are in fear of damage and flooding - please continue to keep all Texans in your prayers (as well as those other states that will be affected by Ike's path of destruction). Thank you.

Hang in there. It's been 19 years since Hugo and I still get the heebie jeebies when I know that anybody anywhere is going to have to deal with a hurricane.

Fingers crossed! The news images I've seen of the surge so far isn't exactly comforting. I'm not quite sure where to hope it lands, but I think I'm just going for complete dissolving of the storm. Good luck!

Guess where I am? Corpus! Yes, really. Been thinking about you.

We were in the mandatory evacuation zone at noon yesterday (Thursday), but we waited till 8 this AM and drove south 180-200 miles, and here we are.

I feel sure that our home is safe, but my husband can't stand having no AC, and a power outage is inevitable. Plus, he's been looking for an excuse to leave town for a weekend getaway for two months.

I guess I shouldn't be, but I'm surprised that our little community (Clear Lake) made national news. I have relatives who stayed not far from where we are, and they are all okay. There's some rain. The winds will pick up in the next couple of hours and probably last overnight, and really, the winds and debris are our biggest concern.

Glad we're here instead of up north where everyone else went. We even drove south during Rita (to Port Lavaca) and we were safe, so I'm not worried.

Glad you are ok. I grew up in Iowa and the river in our town would flood a lot. I know how crazy it can be/feel.

Stay safe!

we didn't get a lick of rain and barely any wind. i was hoping for some moisture at least...we could use it. But, it sure beats what they got in Galveston. Hope you guys fared as well as we did
