Alexis has a head of hair.
Every single time Alexis comes from her bath, she retrieves her bottle of No More Tangles and her brush and comes to find me to brush her hair.
Well ... that's not exactly true.
Actually - she will get the spray and the brush, but she will seldom search me out to brush her tangled hair.
She hates - hates - hates - to have me brush her hair and will do anything to avoid having ME do it.
But ... eventually I will track her down, pull her out from beneath her bed (tee hee) and stand her beside me ... to smooth the tangles out of her ratty locks.
She is never - ever - happy!
She is never - ever - cooperative!
It is never - ever - fun - for either of us!
On this one night when I had finished up the CHORE of running the brush through her hair, she turned herself around and looked at her image in the mirror with a grumpy frown on her face and said loudly, "What's the matter with this?" pointing to the top of her head. "It needs a crack in it!" She pointed again at the slicked-backed hair and pooched out her lower lip ever so dramatically.
I giggled. "Uh ... you mean a ... part?" I said.
It was funny, but she refused to CRACK a smile.
On the upside ... I wanted to put a CRACK in it - from the get-go. No problemo - I'll give you a CRACK! And I did. And then ... she grabbed her No More Tangles spray and her brush, flipped her shiny, smooth hair over her seven-year-old shoulder ... and stomped on out of my room ... just like she has done every single other time I have ever helped her brush her hair *sigh*.
*Self portrait by Alexis - see that beautiful head of hair.*

THAT is a lot of hair, no wonder neither of you enjoy the chore! She's giving Rapunzel a run for her money.
A crack - tee hee!
I love the drawing! Ha.
I am very blessed that my daughter lets me put her hair up each day and doesn't fuss. I don't know what I'd do if it was a battle each time. Oh my.
MM put a crack in Taylor's hair when they were 5 and 4. She cut her hair straight down the middle of the top of her hair, put the cut hair back on top of her head. I come in the room grab the brush, cause we were in a hurry, brushed MM's hair and turn to Taylor, run the brush once through her hair, and a complete nervous break down. I thought the child was loosing her hair. Tim had to calm me down and we checked closer and then the confessions started.
Awww, she's such a sweet girl. I love this post. The sad thing is that someday she won't need you to brush her hair at all... and won't that be the worst?
"Put a crack in it!"
Hilarious.
I adore your little girl...she reminds me so much of my Claire!
That is the cutest picture. I was just like her. I relate. So funny.
It's her SHOES that I love in that self portrait!
My middle kid is the same.. I threatened to cut her hair really short if she kept up with the whining! She just looked me in the eye and said.. CUT it already!!
So we did. Turns out her hair grows CRAZY fast.. so it's back :)..
how funny, that reminds me that I used to do the same thing for Ariana. No more tangles was our best friend.
this has nothing to do with your post, at all...but your site design is ABSOLUTELY adorable
She does have pretty hair! I recommend TONS of conditioner.
Love the picture! I'm fascinated by the lips she drew! So realistic, not just a line for a smile!
Mommies are just GREAT for combing hair. Just ask your Mother
hahahaha I LOVE the self portrait! She's quite an artist. We use No More Tangles on Hunter also; what would we do without it? Sometimes you just wanna say "put a sock in it"! :)
Hair wars
cracks can be good
ah...tell me again why it is so difficult to brush little girls hair?? I swear its like WWIII in my house every time I have to brush the oldest ones hair! :(

She does have a beautiful head of hair. I can relate to your dilemma, my girl hates to have me do her hair. Hates it! She says I "pull" too much. I swear I "try" to be gentle!
I can so relate to Alexis' hair problems. I hated having my hair brushed after a bath. And there was no No More Tangles back in the day! Fun post!
One day you will miss that battle every night.
She is quite the artist, she shows a lot of detail in her pictures.
She's such a sweetie, cracks and all!
We have to use the no more tangles too, but the Queen under no circumstances allows me to brush her hair after her bath. Only her father is allowed to do that. I can brush her hair when it's dry.
That is a beautiful head of hair on that Alexis.
I feel her pain. My mom broke at least two or three plastic brushes in my hair when I was younger. I think we were both glad when I was finally able to manage the brushing on my own.
I remember my mother saying, "beauty must suffer" while brushing my hair! She's beautiful, so I guess that fits! It won't be long until she's managing on her own, and you might miss these days!
My daughter has a massive head of hair and said ouch many times while I brushed. I think she wanted to crack me on the head whenever I hit a tangle.
I'm glad she's grown up, now, and takes care of it herself!
I love your Alexis's beautiful hair!
My daughter is finally to where she will do it herself - and of course she pulls and yanks way more than I ever would have ;-)
This just reminds me of me and my mother when I was growing up. I had quite the challening head of hair myself! HA!
LOVE A's self portrait! : )
Why does it have to be a TOTAL struggle at all times for the hair haha! I hear you!
My daughter calls the no more tangles princess sparkles!
♥ That's great! I love it! :)
Girls and their hair. Geesh, it starts early, doesn't it?
I love her reference to the part in her hair, so cute!
Beautiful picture. Lady Godiva with awesome lips!
That is so funny!!! I loathe combing Lil's hair. It's an absolute nightmare!

Cute, cute story and I adore her illustration! Very nice.
Haha - a crack. That's funny.
I love the self-portrait, but for your sake (and her's!) I'm glad her hair isn't quite that long.
a "crack", lol:P kellan, katherine has enough hair for 4 people, the best thing i've found is fructis conditioner!!! i've spread the word to a lot of NOW happy little girls' mothers. it's worth it's weight in gold:D
love,
dani
I love her artwork. What beautiful lips and eyes she has, in addition to tangle free hair. Your children certainly are well groomed :)
That girl is too cute.
Very cute story! We've had the same hair fights here as well. We finally agreed to cut her hair off short until she was old enough to look after it herself. Best decision we ever made.
